Keyboard shortcuts and basics
Last updated March 18, 2026
Typeahead keeps the keyboard interface simple. Three keys cover everything.
The three core shortcuts
- Tab — accept the full suggestion and insert it at the cursor
- Right Arrow — accept one word from the suggestion. Press again for the next word.
- Esc — dismiss the suggestion without accepting it
Ignoring a suggestion
You do not have to press Esc. Just keep typing. Typeahead updates the suggestion to match what you write, or clears it if no good completion exists. There is no penalty for ignoring suggestions.
Changing your shortcuts
All three keys are configurable. Click the Typeahead icon in the menu bar, open Settings and go to Shortcuts. Click the shortcut you want to change and press the new key.
Pausing Typeahead
Click the Typeahead icon in the menu bar and toggle suggestions off. The app stays running but will not show ghost text. Toggle it back on when you are ready.
Per-app settings
You can control suggestion frequency on a per-app basis from Settings. If you want fewer suggestions in one app but normal behaviour everywhere else, this is where to configure it.
