Typeahead is a native Mac app. It reads the text around your cursor through the macOS Accessibility API, the same one screen readers use, and shows its suggestion right where you’re typing. That’s why it works in Mac apps with a standard text field without a plugin for each one. The AI autocomplete is the same in each: Tab, the right arrow, or keep typing.
Browsers and web apps.
Safari, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox and Zen work with nothing to install, so Gmail, Notion and other web apps do too. Arc needs a one-time setup, and so does Google Docs: turn on screen reader support in Tools › Accessibility.
Where it stays off.
Password fields and password managers, wallets and finance apps are off by design, and so is Finder. In Mail it leaves the To, Cc and Subject lines alone. Code editors and terminals stay quiet unless you turn them on for that app.

From the menu bar you can turn suggestions off for the app you’re in, or pause them everywhere for a while. Each app can have its own writing style, and you choose which apps it learns from and whether it reads what’s on screen there.

The suggestion sits exactly at your cursor, in the app’s own font and size, so it reads like the rest of your text. We test that across the apps on the compatibility list. Where an app won’t let it sit inline, it shows in a small bubble just above the field instead, and you can pick inline or bubble per app.
