Yes. Typeahead works in Gmail in your browser on your Mac, with nothing to install in Gmail or the browser. As you write an email, it suggests the rest in grey at your cursor. Press Tab to take it all, → to take one word, or keep typing and it steps aside.
Smart Compose is Gmail’s own suggestion feature. Typeahead’s suggestions are longer, follow the writing style you set, and bring back the lines you write most. It reads the email you’re answering, and it works the same way in Apple Mail, Slack, Notion and your other Mac apps.
We recommend it, because Typeahead’s suggestions go further. In Gmail, click Settings (the gear), then See all settings. On the General tab, scroll to Smart Compose, choose Writing suggestions off, and click Save Changes at the bottom. It’s a Google Account setting, so it applies wherever you’re signed in to Gmail.
Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera and Zen Browser all work as soon as Typeahead is on. Arc needs a one-time setup first. The full list is on the compatibility page.

No. Typeahead reads the text around your cursor and the email on screen, processes it on your Mac, and never sends your writing to a server. Gmail still sends and stores your email on Google’s servers, as it always does. Typeahead’s only network activity is license activation, a license check each time the app starts, optional update checks, and the one-time download of your AI model.
