Where a suggestion can’t sit inline, a small bubble floats just above the field. Choose either, app by app.

Every setting in Display, and what it changes.
Color.
Automatic, the default, draws suggestions in each field’s own text color, softened. Or pick one of seven presets: Blue, Sky Blue, Green, Yellow, Amber, Orange and Pink, chosen to stay distinct for common types of color blindness. Any other color is a click away in the color picker. If a color you choose would be hard to see on a light or dark field, the preview says so.
Strength.
The Opacity slider runs from faint to strong, or all the way to solid once you’ve picked a color. Bold makes suggestions heavier. With Increase Contrast on in macOS, Typeahead makes them stronger on its own, and Reset to Default puts everything back.
Inline or bubble.
Suggestions sit inline, at your caret, in the field’s own font and size. Where that can’t be placed reliably, Auto shows a small frosted bubble just above the field that mirrors it. Choose Inline or Bubble for one app in Settings › Apps, alongside its keys and on/off switch. Either way it’s the same autocomplete, in your Mac apps.
